Broadband Project Officers

Broadband Project Officers (BPOs)

What are BPOs?

The Victorian Government has jointly funded (with the Commonwealth Government) three BPOs to help regional communities, industries and local government improve broadband skills, enhance business practices, aggregate demand, and improve access and effective use of broadband.

The three BPOs are:

  • Peter Ziebell, based in Ballarat and working with the not-for-profit sector

How do I contact the BPOs?

You can email the BPOs.

What will the BPOs achieve?

The BPOs aim to develop projects to:
  • accelerate the effective use of next generation broadband services/applications in local government, not-for-profits and industry
  • develop approaches to reducing the digital divide between regional and metro areas
  • improve ability of rural and regional communities, industries and not-for-profit organisations to exploit broadband as an enabler to improve services
  • improve access to skills and expertise at a regional level by sharing ICT systems

What benefits will the BPOs deliver?

The BPOs will help develop projects that enable Victorian local government, industries and not-for-profits to use next generation ICT to transform service delivery, work in new collaborative ways, and increase the uptake of advanced broadband applications.

How long will the BPOs be appointed for?

The BPOs will be available from March 2008 – March 2010.

How do the BPOs fit in with other State and Commonwealth Government broadband initiatives?

The BPOs will assist in identifying and developing projects for funding.

The MAV BPO will assist in identifying and developing projects for the
MAV Broadband Innovation Program, which is a grants program that will fund innovative use of next generation ICT by local government, particularly in regional areas.

The BPOs may also develop projects for funding under new broadband program such as the
collaborative Internet Innovation Fund (cIIF) and VicFibreLINKS.
