Computer games

Victoria boasts more than half of Australia's computer games development industry.

The local games industry also employs around 800 people, houses more than 20 games development studios, animation houses and games industry service providers, and offers a lower cost of game production when compared with the USA and Europe.

Multimedia Victoria assists the games industry through its Game Plan: Game On
initiative. This includes:

  • raising the profile of the industry in Australia and overseas
  • supporting the growth of new Victorian games companies.

Examples of the type of support offered by Multimedia Victoria includes:

  • implementing world-first Sony PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 development kit programs.
  • funding the largest southern hemisphere motion capture studio at Deakin University
  • assisted local game development companies to attend key overseas game shows such as GDC, Tokyo Game, Leipzig, and Lyon
  • supported events such as Game Connect Asia Pacific (GCAP), and eGames expo.
