Progress Report Released on the ICT Industry Plan 2005-2010

Victoria's ICT industry continues to deliver opportunities in the face of uncertainties in the global economy, states a new report released on the 27 February 2009.

Speaking at an annual AIIA Business Briefing, the Minister for ICT, John Lenders, released the Progress Report which tracks the performance of the ICT Industry Plan 2005-2010 targets and program and initiatives supporting the ICT industry.

The Report showed that while the sector has been influenced by the downturn in the economy, the industry is still exhibiting steady growth. The ICT industry remains vital to the state's economic performance in building a globally competitive and internationally focused economy.


The Victorian Government and the ICT industry had directly facilitated:
  • 5,052 jobs in the ICT and related sectors
  • $809.2 million in ICT investments
  • 861.2 million in ICT exports

Minister Lenders said that he expected Victoria's ICT industry to continue to play a fundamental role in securing a long term quality of life for Victorians through capturing benefits of new technologies to help solve current and future societal issues in health, education and the environment.
