MMV Programs


Multimedia Victoria's programs and projects focus on supporting new broadband services and use of innovative technologies. Grant assistance is available for certain projects. Each grant program has specific eligibility and compliance arrangements.

Broadband Innovation Fund
Funding for new uses of broadband technology by Victorian Government agencies. Project implementations to conclude in 2010.

Collaborative Internet Innovation Fund
Funding to accelerate use of next generation ICT by Victorian government, industry and community - a $15 million competitive grants program.

Plug and Play
The Melbourne Australia Pavilion (MAP) @ Plug and Play USA is a pilot program designed to assist Victorian ICT and life sciences companies gain a valuable foothold in the lucrative US market. Approved Victorian companies will receive a three-month lease on office ‘pods’ at MAP paid for by the Victorian Government.

VicIT database
VicIT is a one-stop-shop for businesses seeking to contact, engage or access a Victorian ICT company. The VicIT website provides free, comprehensive and up-to-date information on around 2000 Victorian ICT companies.

VicFibreLINKS
VicFibreLINKS will develop competitive long-haul infrastructure in regional Victoria. MMV is currently seeking comments from the telecommunications industry about the proposed delivery model.

Smart SMEs Market Validation Program (MVP)
Funding that aims to substantially increase hi-tech SMEs with the skills to compete globally, and drive the creation of new technology enterprises focused on developing solutions that respond to customer needs.

Access Programs
The use of Victorian Government Business Office facilities (VGBO) facilities is available to eligible Victorian companies. Access program offices are located in San Francisco, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangalore, Tokyo and Dubai.

Export Networks
Export Networks provides assistance to new or existing business networks that provide their members with export information, training services and mentoring opportunitie. Funding of up to $10,000 is available to eligible networks.

First Step Exporter
First step exporter offers funding to Victorian companies seeking to research and explore opportunities in their first export market or markets. A grant of up to $10,000 can be used to recover up to 50% of eligible expenses.

Australian Technology Showcase
Australian Technology Showcase (ATS) is a free national and state government program which promotes locally developed and owned innovative technologies which are export ready. ATS Victoria is managed by the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development.

Design Victoria - Business Immersions
Business Immersions, through the Victorian Government's initiative Design Victoria, provides funding support for Victorian SMEs to receive hands-on design expertise to help solve an identified business challenge, improve performance and drive business growth.

VISTECH
VISTECH is the Victoria-Israel Science and Technology R&D Fund. The program provides matching grants of up to $US500,000 to help innovative Victorian companies work with Israeli companies to commercialise their research and development and break into Australian, Israeli and world markets.

Grow Your Business
Grow Your Business provides financial assistance to new and established businesses wishing to explore and expand their export potential. Funds can be used for strategic reviews, business development plans, group activities and networking. Grants are also available to subsidise the cost of participation in export related workshops.

Digital Media incentives
Film Victoria offers a range of programs to assist Digital Media practitioners. They include:
- funding for scoping projects;
- funding for developing prototypes of a digital media platform;
- business suppport to assist the start up and development of a new media or digital production business;
- mentoring and internship opportunities; and
- financial assistance to attend international festivals and markets.

Commercialising Emerging Technologies (COMET)
COMET is a competitive, merit based program that supports individuals, early-growth stage and spin off companies to improve their potential for successful commercialisation of their innovation.

R & D Tax Concession
R&D Tax Concession is a broad-based, market driven tax concession which allows companies to deduct up to 125% of qualifying expenditure incurred on R&D activities when lodging their corporate tax return. A 175% Incremental (Premium) Tax Concession and R&D Tax Offset are also available in certain circumstances.

Export Market Development Grants
The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters. Administered by Austrade, the scheme supports a wide range of industry sectors and products, including inbound tourism and the export of intellectual property and know-how outside Australia.

The EMDG scheme:

  • encourages small and medium sized Australian businesses to develop export markets
  • reimburses up to 50 per cent of expenses incurred on eligible export promotion activities, above a $10,000 threshold
  • provides up to eight grants to each eligible applicant.
