As the agency responsible for implementing the Victorian Government’s ICT policy, Multimedia Victoria offers a wide range of industry programs to assist local information and communication technology companies.

Grow Your Business Program
Grow Your Business allows new or established small businesses to gain a competitive edge internationally. Companies may be eligible for financial support allowing them to explore and expand export opportunities. They can access a range of planning and management services including development plans, strategic reviews, networking and mentoring.

Melbourne Australia Pavilion @ Plug and Play USA
Victorian ICT and life science companies seeking opportunities in the lucrative US market can access support from this pilot program. The Victorian Government has paid for a hot-desk within the Melbourne Australia Pavilion for the use of Victorian companies.

Digital Media – Industry Development and Investment
Film Victoria offers assistance to digital media practitioners across two main areas. Funding is available for games development and production investment is offered for online or mobile phone projects. Film Victoria also provides funding to outstanding companies to engage an intern for a significant professional development opportunity.

Technology Trade and International Partnering (TRIP) Program - ICT
The Technology TRIP Program - ICT provides grants for export-ready Victorian ICT companies to attend recognised overseas trade shows and events. The program supports Victorian ICT companies to take their products to the world and establish international partnerships.

The Export Victoria website provides an overview of the benefits of exporting along with information to help businesses navigate through the issues that may arise. Also available is information about Victorian Government funding and assistance, key contacts and helpful case studies that outline the experiences of Victorian companies currently exporting.

Export Market Development Grants (EMDG)
The EMDG scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters. Administered by Austrade, the scheme supports a wide range of industry sectors and products, including inbound tourism and the export of intellectual property and know-how outside Australia.

Commercialisation Australia
Commercialisation Australia is an Australian Government initiative that assists researchers, entrepreneurs and innovative companies to convert intellectual property into successful commercial ventures.

Research and Development Tax Concession
The R&D Tax Concession was replaced on 1 July 2011 by the R&D Tax Incentive.

Research and development activities and expenditure in income years prior to 1 July 2011 should be registered and claimed under the R&D Tax Concession.

The R&D Tax Concession is a broad-based, market driven tax concession which allows companies to deduct up to 125% of qualifying expenditure incurred on R&D activities when lodging their corporate tax return. A 175% Incremental (Premium) Tax Concession and R&D tax offset are also available in certain circumstances.

Research and Development Tax Incentive
The R&D Tax Incentive applies to research and development activities and expenditure in income years commencing on or after 1 July 2011.

The R&D Tax Incentive provides a targeted tax offset designed to encourage more companies to engage in research and development in Australia.

The R&D Tax Incentive has two core components:

  • a 45 per cent refundable tax offset (equivalent to a 150 per cent deduction) to eligible entities with an aggregated turnover of less than $20 million per annum
  • a non-refundable 40 per cent tax offset (equivalent to 133 per cent deduction) to all other eligible entities.
