ICT skills & careers

Victoria leads Australia in ICT skills. More than 34 per cent of all Australia's ICT enrolments are in Victoria, and the state is home to world class universities and TAFE institutions.

Victoria's ICT skills initiatives

The Victorian Government launched its two year outline of ICT Skills initiatives (PDF, 4 pages, 396KB) to combat the increasing demand for skilled ICT professionals.

The initiatives include a total investment of around $2 million, through to 2013, to deliver targeted programs necessary for continued growth of ICT in Victoria. This includes encouraging students to pursue ICT-related careers, tapping potential sources of workers, and delivering training programs that are responsive to industry needs.

With a focus on ICT career awareness and skills building, and boosting the flow of people into ICT courses and into the workforce, the most important target groups for government to work with are:

  • secondary school students and their key influencers
  • school leavers and tertiary students
  • ICT professionals and other potential sources eg career changers, skilled migrants
  • industry, education and other government sectors

ICT skills research

The Victorian Government has conducted comprehensive research around ICT skills to promote further skills growth in Victoria.
