Victoria is home to more than 100 Japanese companies which cover a diverse cross-section of industries.

Recognising Victoria's strength in research and development, NEC opened a broadband centre which will become Australia's largest privately owned ICT research and development centre, and NEC's largest 3G and DSL research and development centre outside Japan

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) made its first investment in Victoria as part of the AGL-led consortium to purchase Loy Yang A Power for A$3.5b

In December 2004 the Victorian Government announced a $10m partnership between CEOS, a leading Victorian optical communications technology company, and Hitachi to deliver Passive Optical Network (PON) technology, making broadband service delivery an affordable reality.

Toyota Motor Corporation Japan established its Toyota Technical Centre Asia Pacific Australia in Melbourne
