National ICT Careers Week kicks off in Victoria |

| Victorian secondary students are being encouraged to consider a rewarding career in the information and communication technology industry as part of National ICT Careers Week, held between 27 July and 1 August. National ICT Week is an opportunity to illustrate the talents, contributions and achievements of Victoria’s ICT sector, while informing young people of the wealth of career options available within the industry. Events are being held throughout Victoria this week to showcase these extensive study and career opportunities currently available in ICT. A highlight of the week will be the ICT and Careers Expo coordinated by the Victorian IT Teachers Association with support from the Victorian Government. The Expo will be held on 1 August at Melbourne High and is a great opportunity for students and their parents to explore how far study and a career in ICT can take them. From games developers to engineers and tech specialists, skills in ICT open up a wide range of professional pathways for students. The Expo is closely aligned with the Victorian Government’s collaborative campaign ICT: Start Here. Go Anywhere, which forms part of the $1.85 million ICT Skills Package announced in November 2008. The ICT industry has been one of the fastest growing career markets in Australia for the past ten years. This trend has continued despite today’s economic conditions, as companies realise the importance of technology in driving efficiency and productivity. This rapid growth in the ICT sector means there is a huge demand for young people with advanced technology skills right across the cutting edge of all technologies. Current and future ICT professionals will be a vital asset to our economy, engaging in solving many of our significant problems including addressing the impact of climate change and improving access to critical health services.
