| Young Victorians looking to delve into a career within the computer gaming industry will be flocking to Ballarat this weekend to attend the Ballarat GiG: Get into Games festival. Ballarat Mayor Cr Judy Verlin said the event would expose and highlight the games industry as a legitimate and viable career option for the community. “This event will bring the nation’s best games companies and the community together to highlight the capacity and career advantages of multi media. “With the industry one of few on the rise locally and internationally, it is a great time for students to pursue their enthusiasm for computer games – studying ICT paves a creative career path with a mix of skill sets providing flexibility to work in a range of industries.” The event will showcase leading Victorian game developers from Firemint, Infinite Interactive and Interzone. These industry representatives will talk about job opportunities and present their latest games demos. “Those attending will get the facts straight from leading games developers such as Steve Fawkner from Infinite Interactive, who won the 2007 Australian Game of the Year for Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. “Ballarat GiG is for anyone wanting to get more information on how to get into the games industry. There will be some of the latest games to play and lots of contests and events to win,” said Cr Verlin. The Ballarat GiG: Get into Games will run from 15 to 16 May and is a joint partnership between the Victorian Government, City of Ballarat, University of Ballarat, The Australian Industry Group and the Game Developers Association of Australia (GDAA). |
