| Victorian secondary students keen to pursue a career in ICT are being invited to a series of interactive sessions with key industry players, the Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Marsha Thomson, said. "The Upload Your Future career events are travelling across both metropolitan and regional Victoria as part of a targeted information campaign to encourage young people to join the growing and innovative field of ICT," Ms Thomson said. "The campaign is led by an ICT Skills Working Group which includes representatives from the technology sector, industry associations, individual businesses, all nine Victorian universities and several TAFEs. "The Bracks Government will match the group's funding contributions dollar for dollar. "Each of the 12 Upload Your Future sessions will provide an opportunity for Year 12 students and their parents to hear recent graduates and industry professionals explain exactly what is involved in technology courses and careers. "There is a massive variety of technology courses out there. These skills provide a flexible basis for a career in almost any industry - ranging from fashion to finance, and construction to communications. "The Bracks Government wants Victoria's school-leavers to get the real story on just how far study and a career in ICT can take them. These information sessions will provide students with the facts about ICT, directly from people in the field. "Over the past year, the number of ICT jobs has jumped 25 percent - and that means the graduates with the right technology skills are in huge demand," she said. This latest campaign follows the Bracks Government's $1.9 million ICT skills package, which includes scholarships for talented ICT undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as grants for universities and TAFEs to develop strong industry links and offer additional industry-based learning opportunities for students. The Upload Your Future sessions start today in the Eastern Melbourne suburb of Box Hill. A further four events will be held in Melbourne, including sessions in the CBD, as well as Western, Northern and Southern Melbourne sessions. Six events will also be held in Benalla, Wodonga, Ballarat, Bendigo, Gippsland, Geelong, and Warrnambool. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
