Game On: Victorian Games Companies aim to win big in San Francisco |
| News - 24 March 2009 |
| Fourteen of Victoria’s top computer games companies will this week get the opportunity to network and do business with leading figures from within the computer games industry during the prestigious annual Games Developers’ Conference in San Francisco. Heralded as the world’s largest professionals-only game industry event, the Game Developers Conference (GDC) gives developers the chance to share technical knowledge, explore new creative ideas and meet international publishers and distributors. Over the past eight years the Game Developers’ Conference has proved especially rewarding for Victorian companies hoping to secure lucrative international contracts. Some companies will be pitching their own creative and technical prototypes which have been developed through funding received from Film Victoria’s Digital Media Prototyping program. Last year alone Victorian companies generated over $22 million worth of exports during the event. |
| In recognition of the vital contribution the computer games industry makes to our local economy, and the potential which such a vibrant sector provides, the Victorian Government is again supporting our local games developers to make the trip across the pacific to attend this international convention through theICT Trade Fairs and Export Assistance program. |
| This funding enables export-ready local companies to attend some of the world’s most prestigious international ICT events. In addition to supporting companies through the ICT Trade Fairs and Export Assistance program, the Victorian Government is also sponsoring three networking events, Game Connection, an Australian Games Developers Networking event and a networking event bringing together mobile phone games developers and international publishers.
