| The Freeplay independent game developers’ conference returns in 2009, with the support of the Victorian Government. On 14-15 August the State Library will be transformed into a vibrant gaming hub, bringing together independent and professional game developers to discuss innovation and career opportunities in the Australian gaming industry. Freeplay supports independent developers who are looking for ways into the industry or to transition to more commercial projects. The festival aims to create a supportive and collaborative environment where national and international industry leaders and innovators can freely exchange ideas about options in the games industry. Participants will explore a diverse range of ideas on independent game development, from psychology to literature, theories of play to the impact of visual design, audio design to screenwriting. Industry partners for the conference include Game Developers Association of Australia (GDAA), AIMIA, Reed Interactive and speakers will include international industry professionals. Tom Crago, President of the GDAA said that Freeplay has proven to be a great forum for bringing together students and indie games developers. "As an industry, we naturally recognise the importance of game development at a grass-roots level, and anything that can foster that has our absolute support." Freeplay is a part of the 2009 Next Wave Festival. |
