| Indian IT giant, Infinite Computer Solutions, yesterday announced the launch of its Australia operations, with the setting-up of its office in Melbourne. The move was welcomed by the Information & Communications Technology Minister, Tim Holding, who is in India for a series of high level talks with Indian ICT companies. "Infinite Computer Solutions has chosen Melbourne for its new Australian headquarters, creating up to 50 new ICT jobs in Victoria over the next 12 months," Mr Holding said, at Infinite's head office in Bangalore. "Infinite's Melbourne operations will play an integral role in its goal to be worth more than AUD $350million as a company by 2009-10. Infinite’s decision to base in Melbourne is a feather in the cap of Victoria’s thriving ICT industry. “The Bracks Government is focused on attracting high-calibre ICT companies like Infinite, and growing high-end ICT jobs to boost the local innovation economy. “Since October 1999, the Bracks Government has directly facilitated $1.5 billion in capital investment in the ICT sector and secured more than 10,000 new jobs. "We also know that skills hold the key to the economy's continued success – and so we are working with industry, business groups and the education sector, to deliver a comprehensive suite of ICT scholarships, industry-based learning opportunities and better ICT career information, to attract even more bright young people to ICT in the future. "We see a huge growth opportunity in Australia with its wealth of attributes and opportunities. Our key focus will be to tap into the services opportunity in the telecom sector and also leverage the quality work force available locally.” Mr Upinder Zutshi, CEO Infinite Computer Solutions, said: "The Australia operations will strengthen our global delivery capabilities and provide a strategic near shore presence to service our global customers. "There are many world-class local universities and large numbers of high-achieving ICT graduates in Victoria – we know the local ICT workforce is highly-skilled. "The Victorian ICT clusters are fantastic; they provide real impetus for cross-sector collaboration and networking, which was also a major draw card for us." |
