| A new network to drive the information and communication technology (ICT) industry in the greater Geelong region was officially launched today by Mr Michael Crutchfield, the Member for South Barwon, representing the ICT Minister John Lenders. Speaking at the launch Mr Crutchfield said the Victorian Government is backing the Geelong Region ICT cluster with a $100,000 grant through the ICT Linkages program. “The Geelong region boasts around 250 ICT businesses who employ more than 1,000 people, which makes the region a vital part of Victoria’s ICT economy,” he said. Mr Crutchfield said the latest grant will assist in the growth and competitiveness of Geelong’s local industry, and that by supporting Geelong as a major Victorian ICT precinct, the State Government is investing into building a strong and sustainable economy through boosting business networks and skills in the region. The Geelong Region ICT Cluster aims to attract businesses to the region and support the co-location of innovative local businesses to foster growth, innovation, research and development to develop new markets, products and services. The Victorian Government also provided funding for a Geelong Region ICT Opportunity Study which recommended the formation of a collaborative ICT cluster group. The Geelong Region ICT cluster is comprised of City of Greater Geelong, Deakin University, NC Cable Pty Ltd, G21 Region Alliance, Fox Digital Web, Radiant Systems Asia-Pacific Pty Ltd, Surf Coast Shire, Gordon Institute of TAFE and Express Promotions Australia Pty Ltd. |
