| Last week Melbourne hosted the 4th Annual Fibre to the Home (FTTH) Council Asia Pacific conference. Held in Australia for the first time, the international fibre optics conference led more than 500 international and domestic delegates to Melbourne to find out about the latest in FTTH technology, deployment, and business case studies. Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Member for Narre Warren Luke Donnellan represented ICT Minister John Lenders at the conference. He joined Federal Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, to speak about the future of the fibre optic sector in Victoria, Australia and Asia Pacific . The Victorian Government is considered a leader in delivering fibre optic infrastructure and has committed to building fibre links from Bendigo to Mildura and Geelong to Warrnambool, under the $20 million VicFibreLINKS program, announced in Innovation: Victoria’s Future. |
The Victorian Government was also the first state government to deploy Fibre-to-the-Home in a new housing estate, the Aurora Estate in the City of Whittlesea, in 2006. For more information on the conference visit www.ftthcouncilap-melbourne09.org |
