| Melbourne is playing host to a delegation of Indian ICT companies to help forge closer ties and boost ICT export opportunities for Victoria, the Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Marsha Thomson, said today. Eighteen representatives of India's emerging and established ICT companies have touched down in Melbourne to begin collaborations with Victoria's leading ICT groups. "Victoria has a real window of opportunity to capitalise on its strong relationship with India by developing products and services for new markets in collaboration with India's top ICT companies," Ms Thomson said. "It's important for the continued growth of the Victorian ICT industry that we build our existing relationship with Indian ICT companies, many of which already have a strong presence in Victoria - such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Satyam, Birlasoft and Patni." Strong ties were formed with India's ICT industry when Ms Thomson led more than 50 delegates as part of Victoria's ICT Trade Mission to India last year. Ms Thomson's trade mission also lead to the development of a general economic Memorandum of Understanding with the State of Karnataka, which Premier Steve Bracks signed during his visit to India last month. "I am pleased to say that this trade mission was not only successful for Victoria but the entire nation, with the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) renewing and strengthening ties with India's National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM)," Ms Thomson said. "As a result, the Victorian branch of the AIIA, together with NASSCOM, has been instrumental in coordinating this visit." Ms Thomson said the Australian India Business Council and the Bracks Government had also been closely involved with the trade visit which will include a series of industry visits, briefing sessions and networking opportunities. "We have a lot to talk about regarding not only partnership ventures and investments, but also knowledge and resource sharing," Ms Thomson said. "These ICT trade missions are vital for our local industry to build awareness about the Indian market, including government trade and investment policies and regulations and vice versa," Minister Thomson said. |
