| Premier Steve Bracks today met some of the world's leading Information Communication Technology (ICT) professionals to highlight Victoria's strengths in the world's fastest-paced industry. Mr Bracks attended NEC's Japan headquarters for a VIP dinner attended by executives of global businesses such as Toyota and Fujitsu, companies keen to pursue further investments in Victoria. Following the dinner, the Premier launched a DVD highlighting IT investment opportunities in Victoria. "This was a great evening which has given Victoria the opportunity to show the world what it has to offer in the IT industry," Mr Bracks said. "The Minister for ICT, Marsha Thomson, along with representatives of NEC, have all done a wonderful job in bringing these companies together to share investment ideas and develop stronger business relationships between Victoria and Japan. "I am pleased to say this event, combined with the huge success of Victoria Week at the Aichi World Expo, has helped to highlight our economic strengths, as well as attracting investment, tourism and export opportunities." Mr Bracks said the World Expo was also significant because it marked the 25th anniversary of the sister-state relationship between Victoria and the Aichi Prefecture. Ms Thomson, who led a delegation of more than 30 Victorian ICT companies to Japan, said she was overwhelmed by the investment opportunities that had presented themselves. "There is already a significant business relationship between Japan and Victoria, with Victoria home to more than 140 Japanese companies," Ms Thomson said. "However, this event has encouraged some of the world's leading businesses to also consider Victoria as an investment location because we have shown we are an internationally competitive source for innovative products and services." Mr Bracks said the trade mission was providing opportunities to grow the ICT industry in Victoria through building business relationships with not only Japanese companies, but world companies. "Investments in Victoria can only help to strengthen our economy, which creates business confidence and makes Victoria Week at Aichi very worthwhile," he said. |
