| Victoria University will be the first Victorian TAFE institution to benefit from a $20,000 grant under the Brumby Government’s $370,000 ICT Skills –TAFE Industry Based Learning Program. Program Manager for the School of Creative Industries (TAFE Multimedia) at Victoria University, Mr Alan Morgans, said they would use the funding to further develop their links with the multimedia industry, including the placement of students in ICT positions with new industry partners. “We will provide more students with further opportunities to undertake a work placement as part of their course with the aim of improving their job readiness,” said Mr Morgans. “This practical approach to learning is key to ensuring Victoria’s competitive advantage in the ICT industry and will reinforce TAFE institutions’ strategic commitment to learning in the workplace.” The program is part of the $1.84 million ICT Skills Package under the Building Our Industries for the Future strategy, geared at boosting the number of skilled workers in Victoria. The Brumby Government is committed to working closely with the education sector to develop the future ICT workforce, ensuring Victoria remains at the forefront of new technology. A further 15 Victorian-based TAFE institutions are eligible to receive grants of up to $20,000 to enhance industry based learning (IBL) opportunities in their ICT courses. The new program builds on the highly successful TAFE ICT IBL Development Pilot Program implemented over 2006-2007, which found that students who participate in IBL opportunities gain relevant work experience and are more employable after their IBL placement. |
