New joint venture destined to save energy, money and carbon |
| News - 12 March 2009 |
| Saving energy, money and reducing carbon emissions have become easier, with the announcement of a new breakthrough in smart metering technology through EcoEnergy Pty Ltd. A partnership between La Trobe University and Semitech Innovations, EcoEnergy is leading in the development of improved energy management systems. The joint venture will see further testing and development of the Smart Energy and Load Management System, which will enable, through the use of simple touch screens, the measurement, in real time, of the power usage, cost and emissions of electrical devices at home and in business. The development of a real-time energy monitoring and load management system will enable consumers to actually see the costs of individual appliances within the home and business. The integrated system, which uses advances in computer chip technology, can be implemented in individual power points, switch gear, and appliances, ensuring that power usage can be monitored at an individual device level. This technology, mated with real time electricity usage information, enables consumers to take advantage of lower tariffs and better manage power-hungry electrical appliances. The ability to monitor and control individual appliances and devices brings a vital new element to existing energy management systems. Using touch screen technology, it also allows consumers to see what their energy usage is costing today and through forward projections, how much their bills will be into the future. By adjusting their appliance use, individuals and families can drastically lower their energy use, cut their energy costs and critically reduce their carbon footprint. |
