Nominations for Pearcey Award now open

News - Friday 17 July 2009

Nominations are open for the 2009 Pearcey Medal and the 2009 Victorian Pearcey Award.

Named in memory of Australian ICT pioneer Dr Trevor Pearcey, the Pearcey Medal celebrates outstanding lifetime achievement in the Australian ICT sector.

A national award given annually by the Pearcey Foundation, the Pearcey Medal helps to remind the world of the undeniable quality of Australians in ICT research and industry, and of our capacity to make a major contribution to the global ICT industry.

The 2008 Pearcey Medal winner was Neville Roach, Chairman of Fujitsu Australia. Previous winners have included Fiona Balfour, who has been Chief Information Officer for both Qantas and Telstra, and George Kepper, founder of Datacraft Australia.

Nominees for the Pearcey Medal are considered for the Pearcey Hall of Fame, which recognises significant contributions to Australian IT research, industry, or professional development, but not necessarily the broad-based contribution of a Pearcey Medallist.

In each Australian state, the Pearcey Foundation also honours a mid-career IT professional with a Pearcey Award, which is aimed at encouraging and rewarding fresh and innovative talent in the IT profession.

The 2009 Pearcey Medal and the 2009 Victorian Pearcey Award will be presented at a gala ceremony to be held in October 2009 at the Sofitel Ballroom in Melbourne.

Sponsored by the Victorian Government, the award ceremony will be preceded by the annual Round Table Event, a public panel debate consisting of ICT industry and government representatives. The topic of the debate will be “How can Australia exploit the national broadband network as a platform for economic recovery?”

Nominations for the 2009 Victorian Pearcey Award close on Friday, 31st July.
