| World Courier opened today its first Clinical Trial Storage and Distribution Facility in Australia at Tullamarine, in response to the increasing demand from global pharmaceutical companies that conduct clinical trials in Australia. Representing Innovation Minister Gavin Jennings, local MP Liz Beattie cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony along with senior representatives of pharmaceutical, biotechnology and clinical trial companies and potential clients. “The opening of the facility will set the benchmark for storage and distribution of clinical trial material in Australia. In supporting the growth and development of the local biotechnology industry, the facility will support the domestic and global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and clinical trial companies in the sector,” Ms Beattie said. This specialised facility will create ten jobs with the potential for further growth. Additional sectors will benefit from this new depot, with savings and business opportunities from local investigator sites, labs involved in clinical trial work, clinical trial administration and management and ancillary supply chain support service providers. “World Courier has chosen Melbourne because our state is considered one of the top five locations in the world for clinical trial activity. It will assure the quality of clinical trial products while hastening the regulatory permit process, reducing customs delays and lowering transportation costs,” Ms Beattie said. World Courier’s Melbourne facility provides comprehensive storage and logistical solutions for investigational drugs and trial materials in a variety of temperature-controlled settings ranging from +25°C to -70°C. The new state-of-the-art facility is ISO-certified, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)-compliant clinical trial material storage and distribution facility in Melbourne. It will enable investigational drugs and clinical trial supplies to be transported from depot to investigator sites across the state and around Australia within the same day, creating greater efficiencies and opportunities for business within the state and nationally.
