Optus Investment

Optus Investment a Broadband Boost for Victoria

Media release - 18 October 2005

The Minister for Information and Communication Technology Marsha Thomson today welcomed a $40 million commitment by Optus to provide improved broadband services to Victoria.

"It is encouraging to see Optus increasing it commitment to invest in Victoria," Ms Thomson said.

"This investment is almost a third of the $150 million national program recently announced by Optus.

"It also comes on top of the $20 million commitment the company has already made to the Bracks Government which has seen the beginning of improved broadband services being rolled out to 40 towns across Victoria.

"The Bracks Government is working hard under its Broadband Framework to create an environment that delivers improved telecommunication infrastructure, services and competition to all Victorians.

"Through our aggregated telecommunications purchasing strategy TPAMS, the Bracks Government has been able to obtain around $150 million of telecommunications infrastructure investment for Victoria.

"The fact that Optus is investing a further $40 million in Victoria shows a great vote of confidence in this State and the Bracks Government."
