UK Chooses Victorian ICT Industry Ahead of the Rest

Media release - 11 May 2006

Four Victorian ICT companies are heading to England for an international trade mission, after winning exclusive support from the UK Government.

Local small-to-medium-sized enterprises 3E, Reactive Media, SmartTrans and Vivo Moco will attend
Technology World 2006 - a major international ICT event in Cambridge - as well as business networking functions in London and Manchester.

The Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Marsha Thomson, today congratulated the companies on being selected as part of the UK Government sponsored mission.

"It's fantastic to see local companies winning these opportunities to grow their businesses overseas," said Ms Thomson.

"Six Australian companies were selected, highlighting just how well our local ICT sector performs nationally, and gives Victorian companies another opportunity to shine internationally."

Ms Thomson said growing our local ICT sector overseas was a focus of the Bracks Government's ICT Industry Plan.

"Since 1999, the Bracks Government has supported more than 550 Victorian ICT companies to attend overseas trade fairs and missions, with expected export sales of reaching almost $1billion," she said.

"We have recently doubled funding for our ICT Trade Events and Export Assistance Program, which provides Victorian companies with grants to attend international events, like Technology World 2006 which runs May 14-19.

"The four Victorian companies heading to Technology World are the latest to receive grants.

"The businesses will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with visitors representing almost 300 international ICT companies from 34 countries, so they can secure new contracts, boost exports and benchmark their products against world standards.

"The four businesses represent the diversity of Victoria's ICT sector. 3E specialises in e-learning for accelerated language acquisition, Reactive Media is a web design company, SmartTrans deals with intelligent transport systems and Vivo Moco develops comics for mobiles devices."

Other Australian companies heading over to the UK on this mission include Dtex Systems (SA) and IT Minds (ACT), as well as New Zealand Companies Intranel and Author IT.
