19 Victorian ICT companies have this week showcased their companies in front of some of the world's greatest entrepreneurs, Minister for Information and Communication Technology Minister Marsha Thomson said today.

"The Bracks Government has secured Victoria's position as "International Partner State" for TiECon Delhi 2006, one of the world's largest entrepreneurs' forums in New Delhi from 26 to 28 October." Minister Thomson said.

"This opportunity provides us with the exclusive right to showcase the Victorian ICT industry as well as a delegation of leading Victorian ICT companies in the fields of software development, computer games, RFID, eSecurity, eLearning, photonics and intelligent transport systems.

"TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) is a non-profit, global organisation that provides entrepreneurs and world leaders with the networks, education and mentoring to turn ideas into big business. Such has been its success, since inception in 1992, TiE has generated over $600 billion business," Ms Thomson said.

"The invitation to participate in this, our first TiECon, is the result of the Government's hands-on approach to building strong business relations with India."

Following TiECon, the Bracks Government will also lead a trade mission to Bangalore IT from 28 to 31 October.

"Bangalore IT is the largest ICT fair in Asia and attracts around 270 companies, including 160 international firms from 18 countries." Ms Thomson said.

"Last year's Government-led trade mission to Bangalore IT generated an estimated A$17.1 million in export sales."

Both the TiECon and Bangalore IT trade missions are funded through the Bracks Government's ICT Trade Fairs and Missions Program which has generated approximately $900 million in ICT exports over the past five years.

"One of the main objectives of the Victorian Government ICT Industry Plan 2005 – 2010 is to increase the international competitiveness of Victorian ICT firms and as part of that strategy, the Bracks Government doubled its commitment to our trade fairs and missions program." Minister Thomson said.
