Victorian ICT companies sweep up at National iAwards

Victorian companies scooped ten prizes at the prestigious national iAwards in Melbourne last night, demonstrating the state’s ongoing leadership in the ICT sector.

Information and Communication Technology Minister John Lenders said the iAwards celebrated the achievements and talents of Australia’s finest in ICT – an industry that Victoria excels in at both national and international levels.

Mr Lenders said that the iAwards reinforce Victoria’s position as the home of ICT in Australia and showcase the enormous talent that is attracting businesses and jobs to Victoria now and into the future.

Mr Lenders congratulated the nine Victorian companies and one Victorian Government project team that swept up ten national awards at the Crown Casino last night and commented that each of the winners has an inspiring vision for the industry.

One highlight of the successful evening was Melbourne’s Aconex winning the highest accolade of the night, the 2009 Inspiration award. Aconex also won the Industrial Application iAward and 2009 ICT Exporter of the Year.

The other Victorian companies who took home national awards included:

Tradeslot – winner of the Sustainability and Green IT iAward

PHM Technology – winner of the Research and Development iAward

miRoamer – winner of the Media and Entertainment iAward

Thoughtworks and Lonely Planet – winners of the Tourism and Hospitality iAward,

The joint partnership of Infoxchange Australia, Thoughtworks Australia and the Victorian Government Neighbourhood Renewal – winners of the Community iAward.

Locals Mobilise IT and Inforcomm Software received merits for the eHealth and e-Logistics and Supply Chain iAwards respectively.

Victoria’s ICT industry generates $26.2 billion in annual revenue, exports over $2.4 billion and employs more than 84,000 people, accounting for about one-third of national ICT employment.
