Radio Frequency Identification
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) |
In July 2005, the cluster formed the RFID Association of Australia (RFIDAA) to raise awareness within Victorian and Australian industry of the value and appropriateness of RFID. It will facilitate and encourage the use of RFID by businesses to develop, quickly and effectively, RFID applications which can operate in an open, distributed environment and RFIDAA will also provide a national conduit between businesses in Australia and international developments. RFIDAA collaborates with ITS Australia at the National ITS Centre of Excellence in Port Melbourne where it showcases Australia's intelligent transport and RFID capabilities. RFIDAA has signed an agreement with the RFID Association of India which will enable mutual cooperation and information exchange and is intended to optimise the development and deployment of RFID in these two countries and elsewhere in the Asian region. |
| The RFIDAA members directory lists organisations and individuals certified with RFID. |
| The Minister for ICT, Marsha Thomson launched the industry cluster in 2004 to place Victoria at the forefront of the emerging multi-billion dollar RFID technology market. The cluster was established with funding by the Next Wave program. |
