| Victorian gaming studio Firemint has created a stir with its Flight Control application for the iPhone. Its mobile game Flight Control, developed specifically for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, reached #1 on the Top 25 downloaded applications on Apple’s iTunes store in April. The Richmond-based games company is considered one of the world's best mobile phone developers and has won numerous awards for other game titles since the company started in 1999. Flight Control works through touching and dragging aircrafts across to the landing zones. The object of the game is to avoid midair collisions and the games gets progressively harder, with the number of planes increasing more planes. In its updated version Flight Control 1.1, players scores can automatically be tweeted to their Twitter account. Firemint currently employs 35 games specialists and is a strong example of the world-class talent based here in Victoria. With more than half Australia's computer games development industry based in the state, Victoria boasts the world-class talent computer also houses more than 20 games development studios, animation houses and games industry service providers who employ more than 800 people across the state. The Victorian Government supports local games development studios through the ICT Linkages program, providing up to $1 million over three years to nurture the industry across the state. Victorian Government support is also provided for local companies to attend key overseas games fairs through the Brumby Government's ICT Trade Events and Export Assistance program.
