Computer games

Over half of Australia's computer games development industry is based in Victoria. The games industry employs over 700 people; has in excess of 20 games development studios, animation houses and games industry service providers; and has a lower cost of game production when compared with the USA and Europe.

Multimedia Victoria assists the games industry, with it's Game Plan: Game On initiative. This includes

  • Raising the profile of the industry in Australia and overseas.
  • Supporting the growth of new Victorian games companies.

In the past Multimedia Victoria has supported the games industry by

  • Implementing world-first Sony PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 development kit programs.
  • Funding the largest southern hemisphere motion capture studio at Deakin University.
  • Assisted local game development companies to attend key overseas game shows such as GDC, Tokyo Game, Leipzig, and Lyon.
  • Supported events such as Game Connect Asia Pacific (GCAP), and eGames expo.
